MGMT / Oracular Spectacular (1LP)

Oracular Spectacular is the sound of two stoned college kids accidentally writing the soundtrack to the late-2000s indie-sleaze apocalypse and then watching the world lose its mind to it. Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser recorded most of it in 2006 as a joke thesis project at Wesleyan University on a laptop and a busted Korg. Then Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev) drenched everything in cathedral reverb, backwards tapes, and sugar-rush synths until it sounded like Brian Wilson and Pink Floyd had a baby in a Brooklyn warehouse party.
